My baby turned 3!!!

The last couple of months have been crazy for us, by our, I mean my, own choosing. We had our handsome boy turn 3 last Wednesday and silly me invited lots of people. We ended up having 72 of our friends and family here, it was awesome to see so many people come together for my little man. It was great because I had some people reunite with old friends even, which is just an added bonus.
On the, hey there are way to many people here side, my son had an accident with some of his friends in the big pool and was put under water. Thankfully mommy was right there and saved him and then had to go inside to cry because I did not have the foresight to put an adult there to watch the kids and keep them safe. Grrrrr Spent the evening beating myself up for not being a good mommy and keeping my baby safe.
I will add pictures later I son't have the time right now.
God Bless you all.

The letter D

Buggie has gotten tired of taking 2 weeks to do a letter so we have cut it down to one between B, C and D. B was almost 2 weeks, C 1.5 weeks and now D will be a week long. It helped that B and C went together since our themes were Butterfly and Caterpillar. Now we are reading and making dinosaur stuff. We have An alphabet book for the theme that we read daily along with some early readers that Buggie can read some of the words from, it's so cute. Then we have 2 science/history or reference books that we read and 4-6 fiction/non-fiction books that go along with the theme. We also have at least 2-4 chapter books for the week to read, which Buggie loves to have done while he is working on writing skills, art projects, or just while we're outside and he's playing in the sand, which can sometimes be 3 hours of the day, we love it and he loves being read to can I ask for more??? I think not!!!

Buggie is having so much fun now that I just leave his scissors and construction paper out I catch him cutting all the time now and he's really getting good. He cut out a "B" last Friday staying on the lines and everything, it was awesome.

Yesturday we got an early start and went straight out to the garden to pick corn and Buggie even helped husk a few after he rounded them all up from mommy's throwing session, hee hee hee I forgot to grab a bag or basket to collect them in. We even had some for dinner I have to wait till sometime today before I freeze though since I forgot we didn't have any freezer bags, bad mommy. Then it was book time, beads, lacing boards, stencils, back outside, books, train match-up, name with magnets, books, Rod and Staff worksheets, lunch, books and more books, nap, grocery and car playing upstairs, Piano practice, Twister, dinner, some daddy time, Bedtime routine and bed (which means from 9:30-11 he got out of his bed 4 times for bathroom and loves).

Buggie is really getting into his chores now too. He helps me do laundry (put clothes in washer and dryer, which is a big deal for an almost 2 yr old) and he makes sure the cats feeder and waterer are full every other day, which he takes very seriously. He is also getting so much better at cleaning up after himself without being asked, closing the door behind him and washing his hands after the bathroom and when we come in from outside. We are having a hard time with him just going outside without asking and having mommy or daddy with him and stopping when we ask him to stop, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Potty training is complete, although he did have an accident yesturday morning before he woke up, but it was my fault I let him have a long late night drink and he was so upset since he had been dry for 9 days and we had just had a dry night party on Friday, so I had to explain that accidents happen and we loved him no matter what, so he climbed into our bed and after mom cleaned up we all went back to sleep.

I will link some pictures and websites later this week of what we're doing.

God Bless

Crazy House

Hey All,
Life at our house is crazy, which usually does happen right before big events like holidays and vacations. But right now is the worst because we procrastinate big time until a couple of weeks before Buggie's birthday and go insane trying to get, in this years instance, our house flipped upside down with 3 building projects going on at the same time, while Hubbie is hardly able to be home. Well the nice thing is we've always gotten it all done in time, bad thing is doing so much in such a little time plus doing the normal day-to-day things like planning school for the next week and getting ready for tomorrow. Well at this point we have a fence up, the bugs are dying in our backyard and our storage behind the house is almost ready for the stuff from our basement. This means we still have a wall to put up in the storage, all the basement storage has to be moved upstairs, along with whatever else I can not bring myself to throw away to get it out of the house. Then we can move mine and Hubbies offices', with some room for Buggie to play, to the basement. After that Buggie can move to his upstairs "Big Boy Room" and our bedroom can move upstairs. Last, but so not least I can finally get my schoolroom and a familyroom/library on our main level. I'm excited, but as you see we have so much to do.
We would have gotten more done today, but Hubbie sliced his palm open helping his brother out today, otherwise I'd be moving boxes by now. I'm just thankful it was a couple of layers of skin and not something more serious and he actually needed to take a day off since we've been going non-stop for the last 2 weeks. Tomorrow we will be back to the grindstone.
Ok so if that was not enough, we have at least 60 people coming for Buggie's birthday party, 90 if the unresponsive come too. He's so social and kept asking for his Sabbath School friends to be invited and family is coming and neighbors so it'll be a large bash for a soon to be 3 year old. We like to entertain so this should be fun.
Pray for us not to have any worse accidents.
God Bless you all.

1. What were your school colors?
-Blue and white

-Will you marry me

3. Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?
-semi-expensive, I like my lower anatomy feeling good not icky from nasty cheap toliet paper.

4. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Or have you had one for someone else?
-yes and my husband to be was totally in charge and to top it off after they blindfolded me and took me around town then back to our dorm he was there clean shaven as I'd never seen before which was so sweet and loving a gift, scary cause he looked 10.

5. What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?
-on the need side I would say my glasses cause I am semi-blind without them, on the want side I would have to say my camera, cause I am constantly taking pictures of what goes on in my life.

Pre-Vacation

I so wanted to focus on working on Aa stuff today, but no we so did nothing from the lesson plan for today. So we did cleaning and laundry so we're ready to pack clothes for our trip and the food is ready we just have to pack the camping gear.
We did end up starting our journal today and Buggie really did a great job just lines and squiggles, but hey he's happy writing and loves to read could I ask for more. Plus he woke up this morning and asked to go water the garden, I was so proud. I'm so glad he loves to do so many things and loves to be with his mommy.
I hope you all have a wonderful start to the week.

God Bless you all and Happy Monday

Back to school

So we actually did make it through the first week of preschool. Ok it was 2 weeks ago and we haven't done anything scheduled since, but hey we're working on it. So we focused on the letter Aa. We are going through in alphabetical order and working with a color, number and shape along with starting spanish. Our curriculum is explained in a previous blog.

We started with lots of puzzles. We worked through our curriculums for the letter A, sorry we have pictures of that somewhere I just don't know where. Buggie is up to a 60 piece puzzle, which for an almost 3 yr old is pretty good sine he can do it all himself.

And the man loves his puff ball's. He loves to count, size, and anything else he can think of doing with them. He's learning how to do sequenceing with the puff ball's too, which is interesting to watch and I love seeing the "ahh haa" moments.

So Buggie loves music in every form, CD, live, his own you name it he'll do it and listen to it all which is good cause mom and dad have 2 way different tastes at times and he'll jam with us both on any given day which is always fun to do and see.

The man is a nature lover and if he could do all his learning outside during all seasons he would. First thing in the morning the first question is, "Can we go outside now mommy", this is while he's still in his bed. He loves all animals and chat's with his squirrel and bird friends on a daily basis, which is really cute because they actually chatter back to him and come up pretty close to Buggie, some of the squirrels just sit and watch Westley from a branch, while they chatter back and forth.

He is a painter by trade, haa haa haa, the man loves to play and paint, mud, water and anything else are awesome palettes to use. Hope you enjoy, we're going to try to post zoo pictures from last week this coming week, haa haa we'll see.

God Bless you and your families,

Gretchen and Buggie

Life Happened

Sorry, I spent more time looking at other people's blogs rather then doing mine. Our house is in disaster mode so it makes it very hard for me to be organized or to want to DO school, so usually we watch a show while eating morning meal and then head outside, or we do something coloring related. We had lots of fun outside so I really don't regret the time not doing structured learning. Westley loves all things outside. Constant playing and learning go side by side. So we have lots of fun together. When and if we ever get our house put together correctly we can then do some serious indoor learning hee hee hee.Being able to just hang out and do what we want is a great thing. We're going have fun exploring whatever Buggie wants whenever he wants, which is great for him and mommy. Lots of unknown learning going on which amazes me.

I really am going to try to keep up and blog at least once a week, gonna try for 3 times, but am realistic. Hope you all are enjoying the weather and end of school-year for most.

God Bless and keep you all.

A Little Delayed

Well we've spent the last few weeks deciding on a curriculum for Buggie and we've finally ordered Little Hands to Heaven and The Weekly Curriculum Book: 52 Complete Themes for Every Week of the Year and Letter of the Week and Critical Thinking PreK Bundle.
Okay so now that I have given you curriculum overload, here's the jist of what we'll be doing.
Buggie has a tendancy to whip through things quickly and catch on the very first time so I wanted to have enough in my folder to keep him challenged and mix it up. We also will do lapbooks and lots of extras when we want, I just like to be ahead of the curve. We'll have lots of fun and as always Buggie and God will lead us.
Have a Blessed day.

Happy Springtime

I hope you all were able to go outside and enjoy the wonderful weather over yesturday and today we sure did. Buggie did lots of school stuff but in an unstructured way we enjoyed a great afternoon out yesturday listening to the birds, dogs and trains, while naming all the vehicles that drove by. It was good to be out in the fresh air so much so that this morning when Buggie woke up and saw it was sunny he asked to go out, so I checked to see how cold it was, it was chilly. He wanted to go out so bad so we were out till his cheeks were starting to turn pink, but he wasen't cold at all, had to promise to come back out later. So in we went and played and warmed up with food since going outside was much more important then eating our morning meal. Then around noon I tried to sneak out and check the temp but Buggie was right there asking to put his shoes on so off we went into the wide wonderful backyard for 2 hours of fun.
he turned our backyard into quarry as I read him Goldielocks and the 3 Bears (This is fun because he gets to play but he has to pay attention too cause mommy asks questions as the story goes along and he did an awesome job of answering them and he retold the story afterwards while burying all his cars)and we played stop/go or green light/red light same thing. And we were in our sterilite sandbox driving through the purple sand and rescuing all the vehicles we could. Then it was back to the quarry after a quick run on our balance beam in the middle of the yard (a 2x4) and mom got ready to read The Gingerbread Man, now Buggie is 2.5, but we are finding he has an amazing retention and recall ability. So I ask if he remembers the story and he says yes mommy. I ask was he nice or naughty, oh he was very naughty mommy. Well Buggie why was he very naughty, beacuse mommy he kept running away, I was so proud of him. But here is the kicker, we've only listened to that story once on CD 3 weeks ago. So if anybody has any advise on gifted homeschool curriculum, please let me know.

We went out again after nap because it's supposed to snow tomorrow and I wanted Buggie to get as much fun in as we could without snow.

Well God is good and I hope you all have a Blessed evening.

Gretchen

PS I promise to add pics later oh and did I say we colored rice tonight, well daddy and Buggie colored rice, check out The Foster Clan's site to do this project too. So much fun and we are so excited to play with it all tomorrow.

Have You ever had one of those days

I had great ambition to work on many different faucets of my sons learning, yeah well that didn't happen. He decided we needed to read all morning and play in his rice and beans with his trucks and hide his Brown Bear cards. Well learning takes place even when it's not directed by us. Thankfully God has a plan and we're not in charge of it. We had a great day snuggling and playing in our bed while we read together. It was a no TV or computer day, which went over better then the last time. Buggie didn't ask for either today, which is not what happened the last time we had a no TV and computer day, he wanted to watch shows and he was grumpy.
I hope you all have a Blessed day.

Spring Clean Challenge

With our bug being sick last week I slacked miserably on the challenge so I am picking up today at day 6 and posting day 11 so I can touch base with everyone else and be accountable. This will help me so much because day 6 is all about getting a schedule and working the kinks out. This is what I need because we really need a structure to our household right now. I feel nothing gets done, because I just let the day slip by as I mess around and play with bug off and on. This will help me to get my schedule and his going together so we as a family can have as much time together when dad gets home rather then me running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

Thanks again Melissa.

May God Bless and keep you today

Gretchen
I don’t know about all of you, but I am starting the week exhausted.
Last week buggie got a fever so we pretty much spent the week in mom and dad’s bed watching Dora and reading books. I think I know the Choo-Choo episode by heart now. Then as he got better over the weekend dad decided to destroy our entryway and make our garage into a living room.
I am very happy about this, but it was just an inopportune time to do it, since I won’t go to sleep, which is what he wanted me to do, just in case my baby gets hurt working by himself. So I am a little sleep deprived from that and bug waking up every hour last night. From midnight till 6, us being loving and silly parents we let him come be with us, so every hour he wanted to go back and forth from our bed to his. Parents decided no more from today on, he was just so sick and it was his first sickness at 31 months old, only allergies since he left the hospital at 5 days old.
But now I have a well child, tired husband and 3 foot more in our entryway. It’s a nice feeling to have one of our wants done, well we have to finish it tonight, but close enough.
God Bless and keep you this week.
Gretchen

Okay 2nd Blog opening today

I started a blog last year sometime when I started teaching my little boy about cows from brightly Beaming Resources at http://www.letteroftheweek.com/index.html. Unfortunatly we had to much fun and I so did not touch the blog.
As my tag says I am a teacher and an accountant who loves being at home with my bug boy. I had a hard time at first not using my degrees, but now I would never give up this opportunity. We as a family thank God every day that it is possible for me to be home, but we do miss daddy.
Dad is a Geek that owns a computer business and gets to contol most of bugs computer learning time when he gets home. They have a great time on bugs Mac, that they built together.
Now that my bug is bigger and we're doing things that others can use I have decided to start up again. We've started working on lapbooking with help from http://www.homeschoolshare.com/trains_lapbook.php and had a blast making this train pack, bug plays with it at least once a week still and we made it the first week of January.
Since then we have not been doing anything structured, we play more with puzzles, playing in rice, matching cards, etc. Two weeks ago we started a tot pack from http://1plus1plus1equals1.com/BrowBearBrownBear.html. She is so awesome and I love all the resources she gives for what her kids are doing.
Hope you enjoy the links and see you soon.
God Bless you and keep you daily,
Gretchen
